Liana Souvaltzi, Greek Archaeologist, graduated from National and Kapodistrian University of Athens Greece, Faculty of Philosophy, Department of Archaeology and worked on missions in archaeological sites from 1973 to 1986.
Liana Souvaltzi is a member of the following organizations: From 1986 to 1990 she was Secretary General of the Friends of the National Archaeological Museum in Athens and from 1982 to 1990 she was a member of the Egyptian Exploration Society of London. She is an honorary member of the Spanish Egyptological and Archaeological Society of Madrid, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Maritime Museum of Greece.
From 1989 to 1995 she led the Greek Mission and from 1995 the united Greek-Egyptian Mission in the excavations of the tomb of Alexander the Great in El Maraki in Siwa Oasis in Egypt. The official international announcement was made by the Egyptian Government about the discovery of the tomb.
From 1986 until today she has given lectures all over Greece and abroad with invitations from Universities and international scientific organizations. She has participated in international conferences in Greece and abroad, in 1987 in Cairo, in 1991 in Delphi and Turin, in 1995 in Rome, in 1997 in Halkidiki and in 2001 in Piraeus. Her articles have been published in scientific journals and conference proceedings. Her book has been published in Greek and English entitled "The Tomb of Alexander the Great in Siwa Oasis".
For her work in Siwa Oasis and the discovery of the tomb, she has been honored by scientific organizations in Greece and abroad.
